Bobby
Wolf (guitar)
Born the son of poor sharecroppers and sold at an early age to missionaries
who raised him in the Australian outback, Bobby Wolf started the
first all-kangaroo blues band back in the early sixties. Unfortunately,
the record charts were dominated by the emerging koalamania fad,
and the 'roo sound languished in obscurity until Wolf hopped a tramp
steamer to Belgium. There he spent days injecting creme fillings
into fine chocolates and nights in smoky clubs looking for the elusive
sound he could call his own. In a chance meeting with some touring
blues greats that would change his life, Bobby jumped the stage
and viciously atacked Howlin' Wolf, claiming the legenday artist
stole his professional name. Muddy Waters jumped in to break up
the fight and told Bobby: "Git back to America and go live
in the suburbs where you belong. And gimme that harpmonica and go
git you a guitar to play." The blues master's advice proved
invaluable, for here on the north shore of Chicago, the budding
guitar virtuoso formed or was featured in such stellar bands as
The Underwhelmers, Armed and Hammered, Brutal Noodle, The Fabulous
Organ Donors, Nine Inch Hangnails, The Pesticles, and The TestosterTones.
While he was between bands and on medication, a chance enccounter
with the up-and-coming SlackDaddies brought two great musical forces
together in the form of a car collision. Over the next two years
that Wolf hounded the band onstage to get their insurance information,
they saw Bobby as their imaginary friend and featured him on guitar
at al their gigs, both real and imagined. A devout Mormon and practicing
polygamist, Wolf is the father of over 30 children, all of whom
have closely watched their Dad's musical career before deciding
to go off in other directions; together, they are the largest CPA
firm in the Chicago area, but still refuse to do the SlackDaddies'
taxes. On his off days, Bobby spends time at the Brookfield Zoo,
talking to the kangaroos under the watchful eye of zoo officials
and court-appointed social workers. |
